PENATALAKSAAN PEMERIKSAAN THORAX PADA BALITA UMUR 0-5 TAHUN DENGAN KLINIS PNEUMONIA DI INSTALASI RADIOLOGI RSUP Dr. JOHANNESLEIMENA AMBON

Pneumonia is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among children
under five years old, particularly within the 0–5 year age group. Accurate diagnosis is essential to
determine appropriate management, one of which is through chest radiographic
examination.Objective: This study aims to evaluate the implementation of chest radiographic
examinations in children aged 0–5 years with clinical pneumonia. Research Method: This
qualitative descriptive research was conducted as a case study through observation and
documentation from August 27 to September 5 at the Radiology Department of Dr. Johannes
Leimena Central General Hospital, Ambon. Results: Chest radiographic examinations in children
require special attention in terms of patient preparation, positioning techniques, projection
selection, and radiation protection factors, considering that children are difficult to position and
highly sensitive to radiation exposure. The commonly used projections are posteroanterior and
lateral, with position adjustments according to the patient’s condition. Conclusion: The
implementation of chest radiographic examinations in children with clinical pneumonia must be
carried out in accordance with the standard operating procedures of radiology, emphasizing safety,
comfort, and the quality of radiographic results to support accurate diagnosis.
